Having lived for two years in Redland and having experienced the nearby Stokes Cross riots, Keith and Loraine decided to return to a countryside life in Crocombe Cottage, Crocombe Lane, Crocombe, a historic and picturesque village nestled in the Quantock Hills in Somerset.
On the first evening his father-in-law joined them, a little tipsy after an evening at the Timsbury British Legion. He had obviously been talking about their move and started telling them about the resident ghost. At that moment the air became filled with the aroma of rich pipe tobacco and Keith was convinced!
At first nothing much happened but they gradually became aware they were the subject of childish pranks. As things would move or get misplaced, their interest in the ghost grew. They knew their neighbours living along the lane had occupied one of the two original cottages and they confirmed that a widower, Pete, had lived next door and loved to visit them. They had adored children and told them a ghostly figure used to go upstairs pretending to be a policeman.
Other examples of strange occurrences included keys swinging in the door lock without any apparent reason, lost keys being searched for appearing on a round table without any explanation, a vision appearing on the landing seen by both Keith and Loraine who gave identical descriptions of it.
They later moved to Saltford where they no longer have visions of Pete. He obviously stayed in Timsbury to entertain the new residents.
Many thanks Keith for your thought provoking and entertaining talk.
