We invited Clare Uden to join us for lunch this Wednesday as we wished to acknowledge her long service to this hard-working charity. Clare is retiring from the administration of the club and to honour the outstanding contribution she has made over many years we have awarded her the ComVoc (Community and Vocational) certificate to show that Rotary recognises her most valuable service to the community.
We were very happy today to warmly welcome Ray Anstice to our Wednesday meeting and to hear his recollections of a 20th Century superstar, Doris Day.
Ray, a past Rotarian who was known to several of his audience gave a delightful presentation, interspersed with some familiar snatches of familiar DD recordings, which were enjoyed by all.
We were today given the history of a hospital in the Middle East which goes back to the year 800AD when it began providing medical care in what is now Israel.
John Hemsley, a friend of Rotarian John Allen, gave us a fascinating insight to this facility which, over a 1200 year period has survived through the turmoil and developed into the major institution it is today.
Prostate Cancer, is it worth screening all males over the age of 50?
This question is constantly asked as this disease is the number 1 cancer killer of men in Britain today.
Our fellow member, Has, addressed all of the issues that need to be considered in a gripping presentation to members after lunch today.
